How do I make a video ?

So you want to make a video and publish it to the worldwide web. That's a fantastic
decision ! First of all you have to have some footage, so you need to have a digital
or analog camcoder. We have tutorials for both. Check them out.
CAPTURE FROM
DIGITAL CAMCODER : In order to capture* the footage from your digital camcoder
you need to have a firewire port on your computer. What you need is just a simple
firewire** card. Then you will also need a firewire cable. After all that just
connect the one side of the cable to your firewire card(which is on your computer)
and the other side with the DV port of your camcoder.
Now the second part is..."and now what ?". Now it's pretty simple.
Just open your favourite editing program and press capture after setting your
settings to "DV CAPTURE". If you use Adobe Premiere (which I highly
recommend), go to FILE --> CAPTURE--> MOVIE CAPTURE (but make sure you
have chosen DV PAL/NTSC when you start the new project otherwise start a new
one with the correct settings). You see it's so simple !
ANALOG CAMCODER : If you read the previous part (digital camcoder) you realised
how easy is to capture your footage. Well, with analog camcoder it's same easy
to do it. What you need is an analog capture card, a cable for it and nothing
more (except the edtting program!). Now connect your analog camcoder with the
capture card and that's all. Be sure you connect it correct(the port at your
camcoder should be "out" and the port at the card should be "in").
And don't forget to press the "PLAY" button at your camcoder !
Now, just open your favourite editting program and press capture after setting
the capture settings (PAL,NTSC, windows capture card etc.). Now just press capture.
If you use Adobe Premiere (which I highly recommend), go to FILE --> CAPTURE-->
MOVIE CAPTURE.
VCR : It's the same with "ANALOG CAMCODER" article but you use a
VCR in the place of your camcoder. Be sure to press "PLAY" at your
VCR, otherwise it won't capture anything...
* Capture : To digitize, or import and convert, video and/or audio into digital
format on your computer from external devices such as a digital/analog camcoder
or VCR. With DV/digital camcoders, you transfer digital data directly into your
computer over a 1394(firewire) interface
**Firewire cards are also used in order to capture images from cameras. There
are also hard disks that are connected with it.
